He started his work as a composer early with various titles for his own ensembles. Since 1981 he did numerous filmscores (incl. the academy award nominated feature film "Beyond Silence"). He also orchestrates and conducts his music. 1989 - 94 he was the bass player with Klaus Doldingers group Passport. He did various international tours with the following musicians: Charlie Mariano, Manfred Schoof, Michael Sagmeister, WDR Big Band, Maria Kliegel, Brian Auger, Alphonse Mouzon James "Blood" Ulmer, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Art Farmer, Bob Brookmeyer, Billy Cobham and Wolfgang Niedecken. 1995-99 he appeared as a solist with SWR Sinfonie Orchestra (conductor: Michael Giehlen) at the Salzburg Festspiele, the Berlinale, the Edinburgh Festival and in Paris, Cologne and New York (Carnegie Hall). Jochen Schmidt-Hambrock is married, has a son and works in his own studio in the Bavarian Alps not far from Munich.
